At Oceanside Dental Excellence, we recommend brushing your teeth for at least two minutes. Brushing and flossing your teeth is an important part of your dental care routine.
Have you ever pulled out a stopwatch and timed two full minutes? Most people think they brush that long, but would be surprised if they actually set a timer. Most of us only brush for about a minute, if that.
When you brush, you have to make sure you get more than the outer surfaces of your teeth. Brush the inner surfaces, too, along with chewing surfaces. Be sure to floss at least once per day, to get food debris and other build-up from between your teeth.
Remember to replace your toothbrush every three months or so. You don’t have to mark your calendar or set an alert on your smartphone. But pay attention to how long you’ve been using a toothbrush. Once the bristles begin to fray, they don’t do as good a job cleaning your teeth.
Finally, here’s a quick cold-fighting tip for our patients: get a new toothbrush when you catch a cold. A toothbrush teeming with germs can re-infect you!
